Happy weekend. I was looking at some of our international store work this morning and Alberta, Canada caught my attention. If you've not been there, Alberta is one of the most beautiful areas in North America, and the people are some of the most genuine and gracious you’ll ever meet. Three weeks ago Calgary was hit by devastating floods that affected more than 100,000 people; many families lost everything they owned. Mother Nature packed her punch on Alberta, and my thoughts and heartfelt concern goes out to everyone in the Calgary area who is suffering from this terrible tragedy.
I am reminded that in times like this, when so many lives are turned upside down in just minutes, human nature brings people together to help - it's an incredible thing! Neighbors who've never met become instant friends to help each other through catastrophe. That's exactly what happened in Calgary and its surrounding communities, as a result of the recent floods. People pulled together - including our local Calgary Papa John’s family - and their efforts deserve a big shout out! These great men and women from our Calgary-area franchisees quickly pulled together to do what was right - they brought in hot Papa John's pizza for families struggling to get on their feet, and fed first responders working so hard to keep everyone safe. A huge THANK YOU to all of our team members who got, and continue to be, involved in Calgary! You guys are great, and I know you continue to make a difference.
I'm so happy that Papa John's was able to provide food for all of those affected, and that they continue to help in their community. Last weekend, Calgary-area franchisees sponsored a local fundraiser, "CBC Back in the Saddle Block Party," to continue the support through this tragedy. The event was a tribute to all the people in the area, and a testament to the great spirit that will help this community get through this.
I'm proud that our team works so hard to make great pizza. But I'm prouder, still, of the good people who daily make a difference in the thousands of communities that we serve - in both good times and in tragedies like that in Calgary.
Better Pizza. Better People. Better World. That's what we're all about. And I'm happy to share that our Calgary team has made a real difference in our world!
Hang in there, Alberta!
