Papa John’s Friends:
I’m concerned about the recent attack on Papa John’s and its better ingredients, coming from a news article that was misleading, filled with inaccurate information and, unfortunately, not properly researched.
The publication has issued a formal clarification and corrected portions of the story, but calling out Papa John’s in this piece is unbalanced and, candidly, simply poor reporting. To clarify, I stand behind our better ingredients promise and I am confident that it does make for a better tasting pizza. We post the ingredients that our consumers want to see – we have nothing to hide – but there is a fine line between transparency of our ingredients and giving away trade secrets, recipes and our original formulas.
We stand behind our fresh ingredients. Why? We never freeze our dough. Our original hand-tossed is always fresh. Our vegetables are never frozen or vacuum packed – always fresh and hand-cut in our restaurants. And our sauce is packed around six hours of when the vine-ripened tomatoes are picked – fresh and ripe. We do add seasoning and spices, but do not add any kind of fillers to our ingredients. Our real beef and real sausage toppings have no fillers, preservatives, artificial flavors or colorings.

Our “better ingredients” are the hallmark of our business and our brand; it’s what we’re founded on. And second to our great people, it’s what we’re the most proud of. But don’t take my word for it; try one for yourself. I think you’ll taste the difference.
